Our client Patricia* received £1,000 damages for the loss of a breast cancer biopsy by Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.
Patricia noticed some changes in her breasts and was referred by her GP to Stepping Hill Hospital for investigations. She underwent an ultrasound guided biopsy procedure as part of the investigations. Two days after having this procedure she was contacted by Stepping Hill Hospital to advice that the biopsy had been lost. She therefore had to return have a second ultrasound guided biopsy procedure performed two days after the first procedure.
The loss of the biopsy did not impact on her diagnosis and treatment but did cause the need to undergo an unnecessary second biopsy procedure and two additional days of worry and concern.
Patricia contacted Longden Walker and Renney because she was concerned about the treatment she had received at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.
Her medical records were obtained and a letter of claim was forwarded to Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. After consideration of the allegations the Defendant NHS Trust admitted fault. A settlement of £1,000 was agreed.
As part of the settlement agreement, Patricia’s legal costs and expenses were paid by the Defendant NHS Trust.
