Johnathan graduated with an Honours degree in Law at Northumbria University in 1995, jointly winning the Northern Rock prize for best part time student. He started his legal career with a Sunderland firm in 1999, specialising initially in PI work, qualifying as a solicitor in 2002. He gained extensive experience acting for claimants and their families in cases against former employers for asbestos related industrial disease, including mesothelioma, asbestosis and pleural thickening. He also has wide experience in other types of personal injury work including accidents at work, road traffic accidents, occupiers liability and slips and trips.
Since joining LWR in 2008 Jonathan has specialised in clinical negligence work as well as general PI work and has a broad experience dealing with a wide variety of clinical negligence cases including:
- Orthopaedics including treatment of and missed fractures
- Bowel injury during surgery
- Cosmetic surgery
- Ophthalmic injury, including delayed treatment of detached retinas
- Obstetric and gynaecology
- Spinal injury
- Cancer, including missed diagnosis
- Brain injury
- Slipped epiphysis - failure to identify and treat
He has dealt with cases of great complexity and high value throughout his career.
Jonathan follows a number of sports particularly football and cricket and is a keen golfer. He also enjoys family holidays, days out and hill walking.
