As of June 2010 the Home Information Pack requirements were suspended but every property for sale or let must still have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). EPCs record how energy efficient a building is, giving a rating from A (very efficient) to G (inefficient). They enable the buyer or renter to know how costly it will be to heat and light, and what the carbon dioxide emissions of the building are likely to be. The EPC will also include a prediction of what rating the building could attain if energy efficiency improvements are made and also highlights cost-effective ways of becoming more energy efficient. Each EPC is valid for ten years.
